Young People

YOUNG PEOPLE

SAUMC invests in the spiritual growth of its young people, i.e., children (0-14), and youth and young adults (15-30). Our primary task as a family of faith is to love young people where they are, to encourage them in developing their relationship to God, to provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth, and to challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

CHILDREN

Our children’s ministry serves as a place of prayer for children, a place where they hear foundational Bible stories, and a place where children learn simple Biblical truth statements.  We want to partner with and equip parents to raise a generation of children who: grow in Christ and spiritual maturity; Discover, develop, and use their gifts for the glory of God; pursue a God-centered vision of life; engage in worship, study, prayer, and ministry. (Deuteronomy 6:7)

YOUTH (SELAH)

Welcome to SELAH! 'Selah' indicates a pause in the text (see Book of Psalms). 'Selah' is a synonym of Hebrew words that mean “forever.” 'Selah' is a derivative of the Hebrew root "salal" (note the s and l), which means to “raise voices in praise” or “make the instruments louder.” Here at SAUMC, we have created a safe space for our youth to praise Jesus without feeling shy or simply seeking a place to rest and refuel. This is a place for youth to be transformed by God through fellowship/recreation, study, outreach, service, and worship. Our mission is to love young people where they are, to encourage them in developing their relationship to God, to provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth, and to challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities.
